The T-Mobile G1 is the first Android Mobile Phone created by HTC. I hated the ugly chin, but because of lack of choice I bought it anyway in December 2008. Digitec sold unlocked versions which were imported from the USA.
Today I still don't like the chin. When it's laying on the table I cannot press the buttons.
Specification: Qualcomm® MSM7201A™, 528 MHz, 256 MB ROM, 192 MB RAM, 3.2-inch TFT-LCD, 320 x 480 (HVGA) resolution, Android 1.6
The Android OS was updated several times starting from 1.1 (or was it 1.0?) it was updated to 1.5 finally to 1.6
Plus:
- Android 1.6 is running fine. It can be used as a testing hardware as over 47% are still on version 1.6 [Source].
- The camera has autofocus, so taking pictures of newspapers ant magazines works well, seems to be better than from iPhone 3GS.
- The keyboard is more accurate than the software one.
Minus:
- Built-in memory is to low. I would prefer 4 GB or more.
- I still make many typing errors with the Software keyboard.
- The hardware keyboard could be better, it feels cheap and somewhat sticky.
- When the USB cable is attached, it's uncomfortable to hold.
